Personal Goal Setting

Personal goal setting is not an easy task, but the invested energy and focus will pay off at the end and during the "process" of moving forward on your chosen path.

So, why do you need goals at all?

1. It gives you direction to your life.

2. It gives you the purpose of your life.

3. It gives you the opportunity to fulfill your potential.

4. It gives you the joy of self-discovery and self-creation.

5. It gives you the opportunity to recognize your "hidden" talent(s).

6. It gives you the pleasure to accomplish something.

7. It gives you strength, energy and persistence.

These are just few answers to the question. The best if you answer this question on your own.

Why do you think you need to set goals?

1. -------------------------------------------

2. -------------------------------------------

3. -------------------------------------------

Write down as many answers as you can. Just let it go. Write without thinking about them. You will come up with many great ideas about the "why". The more answers you have the more motivated you will become to set and achieve your goals.

Setting goals give you so much. If you noticed I started my answers with " It gives you...". Or, you can start the sentence with " It gives me..." or "Goal setting gives me...".

What kind of goals can you set?

1. Long term goals. Usually takes 3-5 years to accomplish them. It includes career, family, education, health or financial plans.

2. Intermediate goals. 6 months to 3 years to achieve them. Buying a new car or house, education, vacation to some exotic island etc. could be an intermediate plan.

3. Short term goals. It takes about 3-6 months to accomplish them. You have to break them down to smaller tasks in order to achieve them.

You need to ask yourself additional questions to set your long term goal. You always have to go to the direction of your "passion" your "love" to find it.

1. What did you enjoy doing when you were a child?

2. What were you really good at?

3. Did you really like doing it?

4. What skills did you have and do you have?

5. What skills would you like to learn?

6. When was the last time you were so involved in something that you lost the track of time?

You can learn so much by answering to those questions. You have to set your goals according to what you like and what you enjoy doing. That's when you become so self-motivated to move forward.
