The story of David and his high self esteem

by Dr Caroline Umebese

David was the last of Jesse's sons because he was born outside wedlock. He served as a servant in his father's house. He was the errand boy and he tended his father's sheep in the dangerous wilderness. His brothers were handsome, princely and joined the force and they had very little regard for David. How could a boy with this kind of upbringing develop the high self esteem he had as the king of Israel?

1.David had a good relationship with God. He wrote the Psalms in his youth, all to worship the Almighty God. He was so so close to God.

2.His closeness to God built up his self image. He was convinced that God was able to defend him and make him a great man.

3.Having great confidence in God, he was bold, strong, assertive and was able to face Goliath the giant soldier whom all Israel feared.

4. God rejected his tall, stately, handsome brothers but chose David as the king of Israel.

5. David was God fearing and he knew that God is Righteous and you cannot come close to God when you continue to live a sinful life. Therefore, he always obeyed God's commandments. When he sinned, he immediately sought for forgiveness with much tears.
(Read 1 Samuel, chapters 16&17, and Psalms)

No man owns you or has the sole right to mold and run your life. The circumstances surrounding your life can only affect you negatively if you allow them.God created you for a divine purpose and for greatness with high self esteem. But this will only manifest if you become a child and friend of God. You can get really close to God by saying the following prayer aloud:

Father God, I admit I am a sinner and I ask for your forgiveness for all my sins. I believe Jesus suffered and died on the cross to set me free from condemnation. I invite you into my life Lord Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for giving me a new life.

If you were very sincere with this prayer, you have just become a child of God with God's potential for greatness in you.

(Read John 1:12, 3: 1-21, Romans 10:9&10, 1 Peter 2:2)

Go to a Bible believing church and you will be taught the word of God and how to nurture your new life and access God's blessings.
